Externships

During their last quarter, students will engage in a one-quarter on-the-job training experience in which skills learned in the classroom can immediately be implemented into real-world medical careers. Opportunities abound in this type of setting, including the graduates' abilities to gain hands-on experience and network with other professionals in their fields. It is common for graduates to be offered full-time options in medical careers as a result of their performance during their externships.

Placement Rates:

According to the guidelines established by the Accrediting Council for Independent and Career Schools (ACICS), MedTech College provides employment assistance to all graduates, documents activity and calculates placement percentages for all graduates.  MedTech College has been recognized nationally (by ACICS) for having achieved an average of 90% in-field placement for two consecutive years at our Indianapolis campus (2007 and 2008).  As a result, MTC has been asked to share Career Services “best practices” with other ACICS schools across the nation.  Even in this economy when so many individuals and graduates of other colleges are struggling to secure any employment, MTC has continued to achieve excellent in-field placement percentages.  In 2009, the Indianapolis campus achieved 83% in-field placement by the end of the annual reporting period and 90%, once again, six weeks later.  The Greenwood campus achieved 76% in-field placement by the end of the annual reporting period and achieved over 80% in-field placement shortly thereafter.  The Fort Wayne campus has just begun their first full year of placement reporting and is consistently achieving ratios consistent with the above percentages.  The Lexington campus will see their first graduates in 2011.  Each campus has a Career Services Department dedicated specifically to graduate services with placement as the highest priority.

MedTech College bases its placement rate on ALL graduates.  The ratio calculations are not based on just those who have responded to a survey, etc.  ALL graduates are counted regardless of the circumstances.  The only exception is if the graduate asks NOT to be assisted with placement.  Even then, the exception has to fit into one of the categories preapproved by ACICS and the student has to sign an appropriate form verifying that the request was made.  Currently less than 2% of students of asked to forego placement assistance.  Still in-field placement percentages are averaging 85% for the current placement year.  Final annual tabulations will be completed in September 2010. Graduates have consistently been hired into the following positions along with many other positions as well:  Medical Assistant, Medical Biller and Coder, Medical Biller, Medical Lab Technician, Licensed Practical Nurse and Registered Nurse.
